See you around campus?
Walking through campus this week has been different than a few weeks earlier. It's been settled by the class of 2009 (Welcome to JMU!!), and the rest of campus returning to the school year. My summer was absolutely crazy, and in my mind it still seems like summer. Since I last posted, I've quit the radio job, as it didn't provide flexible hours and an income that would be helpful for the bill paying aspect of my life. Talking about bills, I just moved into an apartment/townhouse for the school year – on campus life was fun but now it's time for something new. If you see me around campus, feel free to say Hi!
A month ago I started an internship at Fairfield Language Technologies, the maker of Rosetta Stone language learning software, in their IT department. I've been working on a Systems Audit of their customer facing files (meaning I'm taking inventory and making a list of what they have, what they don't know they have, and what they could archive). This project has given me the opportunity to understand and document their network structure and file system. I've been working with people from website development, application development, server administration, desktop services, and management information systems (databases and Oracle).
I was excited when I found out a week or so ago that I would be able to stay on as a part time employee and not just an intern, during the school year. With this opportunity I will be able to acquire first-hand experience and skills in the IT field that I'll be working in after graduation. FLT is a great company and is expanding rapidly as they are working on globalization of their products.
Lauren, my girlfriend, was a First Year ORientation Guide (FROG) for 1787 Orientation last week. She had an awesome experience, and I was lucky enough to get to go to some of the events including Michael C. Anthony, a hypnotist (amazing show), and Vic Henley, a comedian from Alabama (extremely funny).
My classes this semester are going to be exciting, I'm taking ISAT 340 Software Development with Dr. Cushman (I had her for 252 last semester), ISAT 464 Telecommunication Policy and Regulation with Dr. McGraw, ISAT 350 Biotechnology for the New Millennium with Dr. Bachmann, ISAT 305 Biotechnology Lab with Dr. Raab, and MUS 204 History of Rock with Dr. Digiallonardo. Each of those are going to be interesting in their own way, and I'll let you know what's going on in each.
This weekend JMU Football takes on Lock Haven at Bridgeforth Stadium, if you get a chance head over and check it out, it's sure to be a great game with fireworks at the end! Enjoy your weekend and be safe! As always, if you have questions email me!!
