Green Flourescent Protein
Yesterday's exam in ISAT 464 (Policy in Telecom) was cancelled because Dr. McGraw was sick. It was instead postponed to Monday. Today in ISAT 305 (Biotech Lab) I got to see the results of all the labs up to this point. We had been working with the DNA from Jellyfish that has the gene that codes for the Green Fluorescent Protein, and had inserted it into bacteria. The GFP was successfully being produced in my bacteria causing the colonies to glow green under Ultraviolet Light!
In software development we are working on Visual Basic .Net and are programming an application to calculate power and energy output of a windmill with variable blade diameter and wind speed.
Last night I visited Theatre II (Experimental theater operated by the School of Theater & Dance), for a performance of Brighton Beach, a play about a Jewish family who lives in New York during the Great Depression. The actors were very good, and I recommend the show to anyone around campus this week.
I'm excited because next week is Fall Break, and I'm going to visit New York City with Lauren (my girlfriend). We are staying with her cousin, who lives in Manhattan!
