I live in ISAT
Sometimes it feels like I am in the Integrated Science and Technology (ISAT) building more than I'm in my own apartment! Some of my friends and I joke that they should rent out rooms in ISAT for those of us who are always in ISAT, so that we could sleep there and save the time and gas it takes for us to drive to our apartments. The majority (if not all) of my classes the past few years I have been at JMU have been in the ISAT/HHS building. In some ways that is great because you don't have to walk all over campus to classes, but can just stay in one building. On the other hand I feel like I forget what the rest of the campus looks like! Oh, for those of you who are confused by ISAT/HHS, this stands for Integrated Science and Technology / Health and Human Services. This is all one building and people refer to it usually as ISAT. The reason for the two names is because even though it is one building, there are two sections to it. The ISAT part was built first and then the HHS part was added later. Now there is a third part to the building, which is Chemistry. It was just added this past year. Anyway, it is one BIG building now.
Usually for the summer I go home and am not in ISAT until school starts again in August, but today I realized that I will be in the ISAT building all summer long just like during the school year. It feels like a second home! But that's not so bad because its sort of comforting to be in a familiar building.
Today at ISAT I met with each of the guys who are in charge of the two projects I will be working on this summer. They are both nice and very helpful. I'm feeling pretty good about my internship this summer, and I think it will be good experience for me. I found out what the Appalachian Chain Demonstration project will be. It will involve putting together an Administrative History for the Appalachian Chain Project that the Park Service has been working on. This means I will have to compile all the documents and databases that were created or used for the App. Chain project. Right now I'm trying to find the right program to compile all these documents in.
For the Green Springs project, I gave the guy, whose name is Ed, the files I have completed and he gave me a huge box of new ones to complete. So I will start on those tomorrow. Oh, and in case you are interested, here is the website for the Synthesis center where I will be doing all this work: http://www.jmu.edu/synthesis/
And speaking of the Synthesis Center, I snapped a few photos so that you can see what it looks like.
As you can see, its really not much. It looks like a regular computer lab!
The picture above is the computer that I spend most of my time on! As you can see its an older computer and it definitely is not the fastest computer I've ever used!
Tomorrow I will probably try to put in a full 8 hour day to get some stuff done before the weekend. At least its supposed to rain tomorrow so I won't be wishing that I was outside instead.
